Coming from a golfing family with her mother’s side of the family all keen golfers golf was a natural progression for her. A very keen sportsperson Nikki also played a lot of softball and represented the Central Coast she tried her hand at in surfing before having a surfing accident which put a stop to that. Nikki started to take golf seriously round the age of 15 after she had been selected in State teams and had won numerous junior tournaments.
Nikki had a very successful junior and amateur career. Having been part of the Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation since the age of 9 she credits a lot of her golf to the support and opportunities the foundation gave her through her early years as a golfer. Nikki won the Jack Newton International Classic both in 99 & 01 as well as the NSW junior championships in 99. Nikki was a member of the National squad from 13 and also represented NSW & Australia at junior level. Nikki made the transition from junior to Amateur slower than expected but by 2003 Nikki had made her 1st Australian senior team, she represented her country on two other occasions as an Amateur. Nikki’s Break though year was in 2005 after many near finishes Nikki finally posted her 1st win at Riversdale cup closely followed by QLD strokeplay also finishing 2nd at the St Rule trophy in Scotland and playing in the US Amateur. Nikki was ranked number 1 in Australia in 2005.
Nikki’s transition into the Pro ranks was a lot easier than she had expected after taking the plunge in Oct 05 Nikki went to Duramed futures tour school where she successfully gained full playing status by finishing 8th. The next week Nikki was off to Spain to try Qualify for the European Tour where she once again finished 8th and gained full playing rights. Nikki’s dream of playing in Europe was coming true.
Nikki had a great Rookie year on the LET where she had two 3rd places in Wales and Norway a 9th at Catalonia masters and tied 10th in Dubai and a further four top 20 finishes she also finished 9th in the Volvo challenge and 5th in the finest 18 competition. Nikki had a fantastic year finishing 12th on the money list. For all her great work Nikki was rewarded the 2006 Ryder cup rookie of the year.
After a great off season Nikki cant wait to get back into tour life and this time it should get easier as they say its always easier the 2nd time round! Especially trying to organise flights! ( Well lets hope so)
